August is Romance Awareness Month

August is Romance Awareness Month. It's a time besides Valentine's Day to remind your sweetheart that they're special to you, and appreciated.
Every woman appreciates getting flowers. (For that matter, so do many men.) Don't wait for her birthday or your anniversary to surprise her with a bouquet. Any time is a good time for flowers, and August is especially good.
Sweet peas, with their gentle scent, were popular in the 19th century in bridal bouquets. Tell your bride you'd marry her all over again by giving her a new bridal bouquet.
Dahlias grow in a variety of colors. Fill a vase with a rainbow of colors, or buy a dozen dahlias in her favorite color.
Fuchsia is lovely in a hanging basket. Cut flowers are lovely, but fade quickly. Consider giving her a living plant, that like your love, will keep growing.
If you want to remind your darling that your love is eternal, how about a bonsai tree? They live for years and they're not that hard to take care of.
Hellebores look handsome in a boutonniere. They bloom in August, and are very appropriate for a wife to give her husband. A matching bouquet on the dining room table could complement the flower in his buttonhole.
Flowers can also be part of a larger gift. Combine a dozen roses with a CD of "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses" or a music box that plays "The Rose." Give a box with a potted African violet, candles, matches, a box of spaghetti, and a jar of sauce for an instant candlelight dinner.
