Celebrate in June: National Rose Month and Red Rose Day
Posted by Enchanted Florist on 1st Jun 2015
On November 20, 1986 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the rose as the National Floral emblem of the United States. And in the USA, June (the most popular month for weddings) is National rose month. National Red Rose Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated on June 12th each year.
The origin and creator of this holiday is not known. But red roses have for hundreds of years been prominently used in wedding celebrations and attire across many cultures. Over time the red rose became the ultimate symbol of romantic love.
Red roses are said to be the favorite flower in America, and Red Rose Day is a time to pay tribute to this symbol of love. According to the World’s Special Days , since the time of Cleopatra red roses have also symbolized courage, respect and beauty in addition to romantic love.
The World’s Special Days also notes that February 7 is the first day of “Valentine’s Week” and is known as “Rose Day”. Other days during the week are Kiss Day, Hug Day and Chocolates Day.
If you live in Houston or Pasadena, Texas, or the surrounding areas, The Enchanted Florist has a gorgeous arrangement of a dozen long-stemmed red roses called “Fly Me Away”-- the perfect gift to pay tribute to the red rose and the person you love.
And if you miss Red Rose Day, don’t worry: you have the entire month of June to celebrate the rose in its many variations and colors; pink, white, yellow, orange...even two-toned, miniature and climbing roses.
